“Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.” Luke 20:38
“And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” Luke 24:5-7
Praying this Monday is filled anew with the wonder and joy that new life in Christ and new mercies everyday bring. May our hearts and minds be steadfast and hold tight to the truth that we do not have to keep going back to old ways of thinking or doing. Our old way of life and our sin nature was crucified with Christ over 2,000 years ago. We were buried with Him and raised to new life (Romans 6), so that we do not have to relate to God, ourselves or others according to the temporary things to which we were once enslaved. Our foundation for victorious living, even when we don’t “feel” like it is firmly fixed in eternity in Jesus Christ. My prayer for us this week is that if there are places where we are tempted to think and act in accordance with a way of life we are no longer bound to, we would know that our old selves apart from Christ cannot be resurrected – but instead we get to share in the everlasting inheritance of intimate fellowship with the Triune God because we were bought and brought into new life by the blood of Jesus!
